Gear DVD offers a no-frills approach to DVD burning software. For novices, you might need to spend some time with the user manual before getting what you want from this program. You can quickly burn music and data files using the program's drag and drop interface. The interface, while appearing plain and simple is actually a bit cumbersome and not quite user-friendly, which holds Gear back from rating next to some of our top-ranked reviewed products.

Features:

Gear CD-RW has the basic features expected in and solid DVD burning software; however it is missing the options and ease of use represented by our higher ranked products. Gear’s DVD burning program does offer system verification so you can make sure your copy will definitely play all the way through or that the copy is 100% complete.

Copying Capabilities:

With Gear DVD we successfully copied an unencrypted DVD movie from drive to drive. We also were able to make a burn and a copy using just one drive. Good news if your resources in that area are limited. We also easily backed up files using the drag and drop.

Other Features:

Audio features on Gear DVD are pleasantly comprehensive and though the interface is confusing at times, the Gear website does offer step-by-step tutorials for each available task. You can select the burning speed if you want. This program also rips CDs and converts audio files.

Disc Types:

Gear DVD only works with CD-R(W), CD+R(W), DVD-R(W) and DVD+(W), another limitation when compared to our top-ranked products.

Help/Support:

Gear offers tech support via a built-in user manual, email forms, FAQs, knowledge base and online tutorials.

Supported Configurations:

This program supports Windows 2000, XP and Vista.

Summary:

Overall, Gear will accomplish a very narrow set of DVD burning software tasks, but it does accomplish them well.
